Experience the spirit of SHG where faculty and students daily strive to achieve academic excellence in a community of faith.

SHG is a Catholic, Dominican, co-educational, college preparatory institution located in Springfield — the heart of the capital of Illinois. SHG serves a diverse student population of various faiths and socio-economic backgrounds.

In the ACT’s new research report, Rigor at Risk: Reaffirming Quality in the High School Core Curriculum, SHG was highlighted as one of 382 schools in the United States for proving “that core courses can be made rigorous and that rigorous content can be effectively taught to students.” SHG’s curriculum includes eight advanced placement and 25 honors courses. The pursuit of Truth has been the motto of the Dominican Order for over 800 years. Our program of academic excellence is the venue for faculty and students’ pursuit of Truth.

The entire guidance department and our college counselor work diligently to assure that our students are actively involved in gaining acceptance to the college of their choice. Over 98% of our graduates pursue post-secondary education.

Just as the cross is at the center of our SHG logo, the SHG community wants Jesus to be the center of our lives. Community of faith is rooted not only in our Catholic, Christian life but in our Dominican tradition as well. The charism of the Dominican Order is preaching, supported by the four pillars of prayer, study, community and service. SHG students are noted for the service they provide to their community, parish and family. During this 20th anniversary year of SHG, students, parents, faculty, staff, and alumni will blanket the Springfield community giving service through SHG Works.

God bless your journey through the SHG website!
