SHG BAND DIRECTOR
Course Descriptions:
BAND
Students have an opportunity to perform diverse styles of music in the Marching, Concert and Pep Band. An opportunity to participate in contests and/or competitions, either as an individual or in small ensembles is also offered through the Band. Participation in Band requires out-of-school performances throughout the year. Members arae expected to attend rehearsals and performances as scheduled. Students are encouraged to take Band for the full year, but may take Band for a semester if the full year is not possible.
BAND HONORS
Sophomores, Juniors & Seniors have the option of taking Band as an honors course. In addition to the regular Band requirements at an A level, the student will adequately prepare the audition materials and audition for the District IMEA Band Festival. The student will also participate in the IHSA Solo & Ensemble Contest in the Spring. The student will prepare and present a research paper on an area of Musicology. The student will also study and pass a comprehensive test in Music Theory of Music History equivalent to the first level in college.
BAND LESSONS
Students may take a weekly band lesson for 1/2 credit per year.
JAZZ BAND
SHG offers jazz band as an extra-curricular activity. Jazz band meets once a week after school and performs concerts throught the year.
CLASS EXPECTATIONS
To be successful in band, students must be dedicated, dependable and prompt!
