Art I Fundamentals
Credit: .05 (4.A grading) One Semester Grade 9-12
2011-2012
This introductory course is a study of the basic elements and principles of design.
Emphasis is on studio work (art projects) using a variety of media, both two dimensional
and three dimensional. The students will be responsible for vocabulary pertaining to
the elements or principles we are studying and be able to use this vocabulary while
critiquing their work and the other students' work. The students will also be introduced
to artists and artwork throughout the semester.
MATERIALS: bring pencils daily, the sketchbook we will be making in class, and a folder
to keep handouts (POINTS WILL BE GIVEN AT THE QUARTER AND SEMESTER FOR HAVING
ALL YOUR HANDOUTS).
EXPECTATIONS: Students are to be seated prior to bell and ready to begin class.
Dress code is strictly enforced. Students should be respectful at all times. No Cell Phones!
DISCIPLINE: Discipline problems will be addressed immediately. All handbook policies
will apply. Art class has many independent projects which require the student to stay on task.
GRADING: Grades will be based on a point system. Points will be earned for quizzes and tests,
projects, handouts and sketchbooks, and a few other assignments. Attitude, attention, and
participation will also enhance the grades. Projects are usually assigned with an evaluation
sheet so the students know what is expected. The use of rubrics and/or checklists will be
used for grading.
HOMEWORK: Projects not ready by the due date may have to be brought home to finish.
The sketchbook may be something that will have to be done at home depending on our time.
