787-1595
Course Information: Zero-Hour Algebra I
Text: Algebra Structure and Method ∙ Book 1
Course Description (from Curriculum Guide):
Students entering this course should have knowledge of arithmetic and common mathematical symbols. Students will study the structure of the number system and the use of algebraic operations and functions. Application of algebraic methods to practical situations is a focus of this course. This class prepares students for Geometry.
Daily materials: text, 3-subject spiral notebook and 2-pocket folder (both for math only), pencil, red pen, and graphing calculator (T.I. 83+ or T.I. 84+)
Homework: daily (a necessity for success in this course)
Quizzes: every 1-3 sections, depending on content and duration of focus on each section
Tests: at the conclusion of each chapter
Projects: as assigned
Assignment Postings: All assignments will be posted weekly on RenWeb and in the classroom.
Absences: It is your responsibility to get missed assignments from the website or from the list posted in class. You may borrow another student’s notes or make your own notes from the textbook section(s) covered during your absence. If you miss a quiz or test, please make arrangements to make it up. You will have the same number of days that you missed to make up the work in order to receive credit. Tests are expected to be taken on the day they are given. You will be notified of upcoming tests several days in advance. If you are absent only for the chapter review the day prior to the test, you still will be expected to take the test if you are in class on the testing day.
Grades: Grades will be based on quiz, test, homework, and project scores and will be calculated by dividing the number of points you have earned by the number of points possible. Letter grades are assigned according to the school grading scale. In calculating semester grades, each quarter grade will be worth 37.5% and the semester exam will be worth 25%.

Class Expectations
Be in your seat when the bell rings. If you choose to disregard this expectation, you will be counted as tardy and be subject to penalties as outlined in the Student Handbook.
Be prepared for class by having your textbook, completed homework, notebook, folder, calculator, and pencil, and red pen. If you accidentally forget an item, you may use one of the two passes you are allowed per quarter. If you choose to disregard this policy beyond your allotted passes, you will receive a detention.
Maintain academic honesty in your work. If you choose to disregard this expectation, you will receive a zero for the work in question and will be subject to consequences as described in the Student Handbook.
Exhibit courtesy and respect toward all persons at all times. If you choose to disregard this expectation, even if your words are “in jest,” you will receive a detention.
Show your eyes (remain awake) at all times. If you choose to disregard this expectation by laying your head on your arms or desk, you will receive a gentle reminder for the first incident and a detention for subsequent incidents. If you exhibit habitual disregard of this policy, I will contact your parents or guardians.
Remain silent during all quizzes and tests. If you choose to disregard this expectation, you will receive a zero for the quiz or test.
Sharpen pencils before class begins. This limits class disruption. If your pencil breaks during class, please use a back-up pencil, if possible, before raising your hand for permission to sharpen the broken one.
Use restroom between classes. This limits class disruption. Up to two passes out of the classroom will be issued per quarter. If unused, these passes will be worth 3 bonus points each at the end of the quarter.
