ENGLISH III: AMERICAN LITERATURE/COMPOSITION - 203442
CREDIT: 1 (4.A grading) GRADE 11
PREREQUISITES: English II-332, grade B- or higher; English II-442, grade
C- or higher; English II-552, grade lower than B-; and Sophomore English
Teacher Recommendation
This course offers a comprehensive study of American Literature and authors.
Composition skills are reinforced and a thesis research paper is required. The
course is supplemented by novels, group and individual presentations, and
discussion.

Journalism I - Introduction to Newswriting
CREDIT: 1 (4.A grading) GRADE 9-12
PREREQUISITES: B average in all previous English classes; must maintain
a “C” average or teacher recommendation
Journalism I is an elective course counted as an additional English credit.
Journalism I students will be expected to learn how to write in newspaper style.
Students will also be expected to learn the basics of computer usage and basic
newspaper layout. Students are expected to make an after school and weekend
time commi tment to this class to produce the Campus Crier newspaper, a news
magazine, a literary magazine, and/or produce news videos.
Journalism II, III, IV - Campus Crier
JOURNALISM II - 243442
CREDIT: 1 [.5 English & .5 Fine Arts] (4.A grading) GRADE 10-12
PREREQUISITES: B ave rage in all previous English classes; Journalism I
required, “C” average or teacher recommendation.
Journalism II is an elective course. Journalism II students will increase their
writing skills, moving from the more strict style of newspaper and sports writing,
to opinions, features, and review writing. Some students from this class will
assume leadership positions for the newspaper or magazines. These students will
learn the components of physical layout and how to use a complex computer
program to place stories, photographs, and graphics on the page. Time will also
be spent learning the basics of photography and Photoshop. Students are expected
to make an after school and weekend time commitment to produce various media.

CREDIT: 1 [.5 English & .5 Fine Arts] (4.A grading) GRADE 11-12
PREREQUISITES: B average in all previous English classes. Journalism I
and II required, “C” average or teacher recommendation.
This is an elective course. Students will assume major leadership positions,
including editor-in-chief and editor of specific areas of the newspaper. These
students will be responsible for topic ideas and assigning them to respective
departments. Students are expected to make an after school and weekend time
commitment to this class to produc e the Campus Crier newspaper, a news
magazine, a literary magazine, or produce news video.

PREREQUISITE: B average in English; A in previous Journalism classes
This is an elective course. Students will assume major leadership positions,
including editor-in-chief and editor of specific areas of the newspaper. Honors
students will develop skills in more specific areas such as news writing, design,
photography, sports writing, or copy editing.

Journalism IV is for experienced Journalism students. All details to be arranged
with the Journalism teacher. Must have three years experience in journalism

CREDIT: 1 (5.A grading) GRADE 12
Journalism IV is for experienced Journalism students. All details to be arranged
with the Journalism teacher. Student must have three years experience in
Journalism classes. Students will take on an editorship and work on independent
projects based on their area of interest.

1. I commute from Lincoln, IL every day to SHG.
2. I grew up in Chicago, IL.
3. I have two rescue dogs: Teagan and Luna.
4. My favorite book is Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer.
5. Other than teaching and reading my interests include crafting (sewing, knitting, designing and making jewelry), training my dogs, taking photos and listening to music.
