This course surveys the development of America from colonial to contemporary
times. During this course the student must pass the U.S. and Illinois constitution
tests, as required by the State of Illinois.
AMERICAN GOVERNMENT
CREDIT: 0.5 (4.A grading) (ONE SEMESTER) GRADE 11,12
PREREQUISITE: United States History
This course presents an in-depth analysis of American government on national,
state, and local levels. Also analyzed are the roles of political parties, public
opinion pools, electoral process, and special interest groups as well as current
issues in government.
SOCIOLOGY
CREDIT: 0.5 (4.A grading) ONE SEMESTER GRADE 11,12
This course provides an in-depth analysis of the nature of society and culture.
Special emphasis placed on sociological terms and the study of American society.
Social Studies (Classroom Expectations)
Room: 01
1. l will have a seating chart for this course. Please make sure you sit in
your assigned seat each day.
2. Be on time to class each day. Never miss class unless it is absolutely
necessary. lf you are late for class you will need a pass to get in.
3. No candy, food, or any kind of drink will be permitted by the students in
this classroom. You may chew gum if you wish.
4. Follow the dress code. This is one of the major rules at SHG. All
detentions for dress code will be issued by me at the end of the class.
5. During class lecture, class discussion, or during any kind of
presentation, your complete attention and focus is crucial to your success.
Classroom disruption will not be permitted.
6. For each class period you will need the following;
l. Your textbook
2. Spiral notebook
3. Pen or pencil
4. Regular folder for your papers
7. ln the unusual event that I am not in the classroom three to four
minutes after the second bell, the "student helper" will go to the office and
notify the assistant principal of my absence.
8. Cell phones, texting ...... well, l think you know the answer to that.
9. If you need me for any help during the school year, my contact times
are as follows:
l. Before school; 7:30 — 7:50
2. After school; 3:00 — 3:30 or longer if needed
