Textbook for Honors- Geometry for Enjoyment and Challenge
Textbook for Regular- Geometry
GEOMETRY
CREDIT: 1 (4.A grading) GRADE 10
PREREQUISITE: Algebra I regular with SHG Teacher Recommendation
This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of plane and space geometry. Both deductive and inductive methods of proof are applied to the study of points, lines, planes, and angles. Applications are made to triangles and other polygons as well as to circles, with particular attention to congruence and similarity. Constructions, transformations, and formulas relating to areas and volumes are studied. This class prepares students for Algebra II.
GEOMETRY HONORS
CREDIT: 1 (5.A grading) GRADE 10
PREREQUISITE: Algebra honors, C or higher; Algebra II honors; SHG Teacher Recommendation
This is an accelerated course presenting plane and space geometry, constructions, logic, and deductive proofs. Emphasis is placed on precise mathematical language. A strong effort is made to interrelate the study of geometry and algebra.
This class prepares students for Algebra II Honors.
Classroom Expectations for Geometry
CLASSROOM PROCEDURE
1. Must be in seat when bell rings.
2. Must have all needed materials(book, pencils, paper, etc.)
3. When I talk, you don’t.
4. Must use pencil for all work. Any work done in pen will not be accepted.
5. All work to be turned in must be done on loose-leaf paper.
6. Gum is not permitted in this classroom.
GRADING
1. The total point system will be used as the grading system. Numerical percentages and corresponding letter grades will be based on those in the student handbook.
2. Tests will be worth 90-110 points, major quizzes 40-60 points, and homework assignments 2 points each. All points will be totaled to give quarter and semester grades.
3. The semester average will be calculated by using percentages with each quarter counting 0.375 and the final exam 0.250. For example, if you had 90% first quarter, 85% second quarter, and 92% on the final exam, then your first semester grade would be 0.375 *90 + 0.375 *85 + 0.250*92%, which equals 89%.
HOMEWORK
1. Remember! All homework assignments must be done in pencil and on loose-leaf paper.
2. If a homework assignment has not been attempted, a grade of 0 will be recorded. However, assignments must still be made up.
NEEDED MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES
1. It is strongly recommended that a notebook be used for keeping notes when new material is covered and for copying problems from the board. The notebook can also be used for keeping a list of theorems and postulates.
2. Calculators are not required but are strongly recommended.
3. A compass and protractor are required.
DISCIPLINE
1. Any unacceptable behavior will result in central detention in room 213.
2. Serious infractions will result in a meeting with the Dean of Students.
MAKE UP WORK
1. All make up work must be turned in and tests and quizzes must be made up no later than the second day of return.
2. Extended illnesses will be handled on an individual basis.
3. No work can be made up due to suspension from class or from school.
GENERAL REMARKS
1. If there is a time when I am not in the classroom when the bell rings to begin class, please sit quietly. After 5 minutes a student, already assigned, will notify the office.
2. If you need extra help, please see me to make arrangements.
3. A reminder to read the Academic dishonest Policy and Attendance Policy in the student handbook.
4. If you are participating in an extra-curricular activiy, read carefully the eligibility rules in the student handbook.
5. We are a part of a Christian community. Let us all do what we can to create an atmosphere of caring and not try to cut each other down.
