CLASS EXPECTATIONS

l. Be on time for class. By that, I mean be in your desk when

the second bell rings. If you are detained between classes,

please bring a note.

2. Regarding absences, I will allow work to be made up following

an excused absence (illness, trip, emergency); however, _

the work missed must be made up the day you return to —

school unless in my judgment there is a valid reason for

an extension.

3. I allow the chewing of gum in class. However I expect

responsible behavior, that is, no gum on the floor or

furniture, no wrappers on the floor, no loud chewing

(smacking). Irresponsible behavior will lead to an

end to gum-chewing.

4. Your grade in this course will be based on several

types of classroom work: essay tests, quizzes, outside—of—

class essays, and classroom participation. The quiz

scores will be combined to equal the weight of one

in—class examination. To earn at least a C for

classroom participation, you must pay attention to what

is being discussed in class, and show a courteous

respect to the students speaking. If you daily ask

questions of a serious nature (my judgment) or make

meaningful contributions to what is being discussed in

class, you will earn a 3 or an A for class participation.

As a rule, you will probably have five or six grades/

assignments from which your quarter grade will be made.

5. I am available in RM 09 at 3:15 most afternoons should

you need help. Just let me know if you need to see

me so that it does not conflict with other students

seeing me.
