Quizzes- be prepared for daily quizzes
Exams-will follow each chapter Missed exams will be made
up upon return. This is also your responsibility.
*****DO NOT THROW ANY RETURNED PAPERS AWAY *
Behavior Expectations
- Be in your seat, ready to work WHEN then bell rings.
- Have your materials with you. NO LOCKER PASSES
- RESPECT- No talking during lecture
- Raise your hand
- Listen carefully & follow directions
- No hair combing or makeup applying
- No food , drink s (this includes water bottles) or chewing gum.
- Goggles must be worn during labs.
- Hands off electrical outlets, water faucets and gas jets, unless required for lab.
- Distracting items (games, pictures, toys) will not be brought into the room.
- Dress codes will be equally enforced.
- You may use two restroom passes per quarter.
• If directions aren’t followed to stay after class or write in behavior journal, you are immediately advanced to the next consequence.
• Only one stay after class is allowed per semester. After the conference, each additional offense will result in next consequence
Classroom Procedures
What to do when….
The late bell rings to start the class period
• Be sure to be in your assigned seat
• Have your homework out so any questions you have may be asked and answered quickly.
• Begin working on your Starter right away.
You need to go to the bathroom during class or go get something from your locker
• If we are not working on a lesson, you may raise your hand or come ask me and I will probably let you.
• If we are working on a lesson, bring me your hall pass and you may go.
• You are given 2 hall passes at the beginning of each semester to use for such instances but after those are gone, no more breaks are allowed at inopportune times.
I start talking or the PA system comes on
• Get quiet right away
I see or hear your cell phone or any other electronic device (besides a calculator)
• I will take it up and give it to a Dean.
• You will have to talk with them after school about getting it back. (see the handbook)
The Dismissal bell rings and I am still talking
• Sit quietly and pay attention until I dismiss you.
• You should not get out of your seat until the bell has rung and I have dismissed you.
Positive Recognition (not in any order)
• Vocal Praise
• Positive note sent home
• Positive note to student
• Positive phone call home to parents
• Additional grace pass
Consequences (in order)
1. Warning
2. Stay after class to discuss behavior (without a late pass to next class)
3. Behavior Journal- report to me in the afternoon or morning within 24 hrs of the offense to write in journal about behavior for 10 minutes.
4. Call home to parent and Detention after school for 40 minutes.
5. Referral to Dean
**For severe behavior, you will be sent to Dean directly without prior consequences
Discipline Plan
- Misbehavior during a lab will result in a loss of lab privileges, a zero for the lab and parent conference.
- Any behavior that endangers self or others will result in immediate referral to the Dean of Students and parent conference.
Academic Honesty: Students will agree: to turn in only original work, work independently on assignments, quizzes, labs and tests. Any assignment determined by the instructor to be a form of academic dishonesty (copying, looking at others work, or assistance in a testing situation) will receive a zero.

Semester 2 Exam
Chemistry
Prerequisite:GPA 2.4 or higher; C+ Algebra I, C+
Chemistry is a lab course designed to include the study of the properties, composition and structure of matter asa well as the accompanying energy changes. The course is structured so as to facilitate preparation for careers in medicine, nursing and other paramedical professions. The course includes laboratory experience in the proper use of equipment and chemistry techniques.
Chemistry Honors
Prerequisite: Biology Grade A, Biology (H) Grade B
Unifying principles of chemistry are developed from laboratory observations. The atomic and kinetic theory of matter is developed and applied to gases, liquids and solids. Chemical reactions and the factor that control them are studied. Recommended for those planning a career in science or medicine.
Chemistry Advanced Placement
Prerequisite: Chemistry (H) grade A-/B+ for both semesters
This is a college level laboratory course. The importance of the theoretical aspects of chemistry include an increasing emphasis on these aspects of the content of general chemistry courses. Topics covered include structure of matter, kinetic theory of gases, chemical equilibrium, chemical kinetics, and the basic concepts of thermodynamics .Students must dedicate a considerable amount of time in preparation for this course.
General Information:
Chemistry is a very exciting course of study. Unfortunately, many misconceptions exist. Chemistry is a physical science, however, many of the biological concepts are better understood though chemistry. Chemistry is inquiry based course, one must observe, wonder and determine concepts involved. Creativity is an important quality of a good chemist ! These courses stress UNDERSTANDING not memorizing. Each class has a significant lab portion for you to discover and test the concepts we will study. Safety and good behavior are paramount in the chemistry lab. A considerable amount of your time must be dedicated to this class to insure success.
