Fine Arts - Fashion and Textiles

Fashion I, II, III
Fashion classes integrate knowledge, skills, and practices required for personal sewing and clothing care. Mandatory participation in a fashion show provides students an opportunity to showcase their work.

Fashion I
Fashion I begins the introduction to garment construction and design. Students will use a variety of tools and equipment to create several apparel items. These items along with portfolio development will demonstrate basic skill development, textile and apparel language development, fiber characteristics and care, style components, pattern, texture and color theory.

Fashion II
Fashion II continues garment construction and design using skills. Portfolio enhancement leads to the demonstration and understanding of elements and principles of design and garment analysis. Students will study the history of fashion origination to fads and fashions of today. Entrepreneurship will be explored in relation to technology, retailing, merchandising, and customer satisfaction.

Fashion III
Fashion III focuses on enhanced application of design skills in garment construction. Incorporation of industry techniques and knowledge of specialized tools assist understanding of the global fashion world. Students study current fashion forecast and make reference to historical relationships and create merchandise displays. These students function as the management team in the development of an entrepreneurship or fashion show. Students are allowed to specialize in an area of interest for an independent project.

Fabric Fundamentals
Fabric Fundamentals is an introductory course. Students study basic fabric concepts, machine and hand sewing skills, clothing care and repair. Students will demonstrate application of skills in several sewing, design and alteration/repair projects.
