Ways to Give to SHG

Annual Fund
The Annual Fund is the cornerstone of giving to Sacred Heart-Griffin High School. The Annual Fund comprises unrestricted giving from all sources that support all school programs and activities. Teacher salaries, scholarships, library books, technology and building maintenance are all funded in part by annual giving. The school can put such gifts to use immediately in areas where they are most needed.

The Annual Fund is calculated on a fiscal year basis from July 1 - June 30. During the year, the SHG Advancement Office sends mailings, holds phone-a-thons and special events and conducts personal visits to raise Annual Fund dollars.

Cash
Your gift of cash provides immediate tax savings through deductions and provides SHG with funds for current use.

Matching Gifts
Some employers will match your gift; please ask your human resource representative. This may double or even triple your contribution.

Securites
You can make such gifts in person, through a broker, or through the mail. For tax purposes, the value of the gift is recorded as the average market value on the date of delivery (or if mailed, on the postmark date). If transferred through a broker, the gift’s value is determined by the date of transfer.

Major Gifts
Major gifts are typically directed toward student scholarships, capital needs or other areas that may be of specific interest to a donor. The strategic planning process helps to guide our priorities for major gifts.

Endowment Funds
Endowment funds ensure Sacred Heart-Griffin’s future as an institution of the highest quality. Gifts specified for endowment purposes can be designated to support scholarships, teacher salaries, or general purposes, as well as to fund new program development.

Memorial & Tribute Gifts
A gift in memory of a loved one is a fitting way to remember those who have passed on and who have meant so much. A tribute gift is one that is given in honor of a special person while they are still here. Tribute gifts are also in honor of a special event such as a birthday, graduation, wedding, anniversary, etc.

Gifts in Kind
Non-cash gifts such as books, scientific equipment, art materials, etc., also make important gifts. The fair market value of such items is deductible for income tax purposes. A formal appraisal is required by the IRS for gifts in kind valued at over $5,000. The donor is responsible for the appraisal.

Planned Giving

Wills
Remembering Sacred Heart-Griffin High School in your will is a special and effective way to ensure that the ideals you value will be perpetuated. It also reduces the taxable portion of your estate.

Life Income Gifts
With a life income gift, you assign cash, securities, or other assets irrevocably to SHG. They are then invested to pay a lifetime percentage or fixed amount to you, to succeeding beneficiaries, or to whomever you designate. Income is paid monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually. Upon the death of the last surviving beneficiary, SHG may use the assets either as needed or for a specific purpose that you have designated.

Personal Property
Gifts of valuable art works, furniture, jewelry, antiques, rare books and manuscripts can increase the school’s educational resources in many ways.

Real Estate
You can offer real estate as an immediate gift or to fund a trust. You may even arrange for lifetime occupancy after making your gift, thereby gaining a tax deduction and eliminating local taxes while still enjoying the comforts of home.

Life Insurance
At a relatively low cost to you, a life insurance policy, which names SHG as beneficiary, can have a real impact.
